Frequently asked questions

Everything you need before your first flight. All required information is also provided on vAMSYS after registration.

Is LH Virtual free?
Yes, completely. LH Virtual is a non-commercial community project. Registration, all tools and all events are free of charge.
Which simulators are supported?
Microsoft Flight Simulator, X-Plane and Prepar3D. Our ACARS client tracks your flight in every major simulator.
Do I need to fly on VATSIM or IVAO?
No. Online flying is encouraged, especially for events, but offline flights are fully accepted and graded too.
How active do I have to be?
Our activity requirements are deliberately low. One flight now and then keeps your account active. Real life always comes first.
How do PIREPs and grading work?
Your flight is logged automatically via ACARS and graded on landing. You get transparent feedback on every leg, and the leaderboards are there if you enjoy the competition.
What is vAMSYS?
vAMSYS is the virtual airline management platform LH Virtual runs on — in our view the best in the industry. Registration, flight booking, PIREPs, statistics and leaderboards all live there, with a single account. After registering you get access to our Crew Centre with the complete, always current timetable.
What is Pegasus and how does flight tracking work?
Pegasus is the vAMSYS flight tracker (our ACARS). Download it from the Crew Centre, start it before your flight, and it records everything automatically — position, altitude, landing rate. After shutdown it files your PIREP for you and the grading happens on the spot. No manual paperwork.
How do I book and fly my first leg?
Log into the Crew Centre on vAMSYS, pick any flight from the live timetable and book it. Your SimBrief OFP is generated with one click, including the correct aircraft profile. Fly the leg with Pegasus running, and your PIREP is filed automatically after landing.
Which callsign do I use on VATSIM?
Use the callsign shown on your vAMSYS booking — for example DLH… on Lufthansa legs or OCN… on Discover flights. The commercial flight number (LH…, 4Y…, EN…) belongs on the schedule and in your paperwork. If in doubt, the booking page shows exactly what to enter.
I am new to VATSIM — where do I start?
Create a free account at vatsim.net and work through their new member orientation. Then start small: pick a quieter airport, listen to the frequency before you call, and do not worry about mistakes — controllers deal with new pilots every day, and text communication is perfectly fine. LH Virtual events like Frankfurt Friday are a great first step because many LHV pilots fly the same route at the same time. And as an official VATSIM Virtual Airline Partner, our Discord is full of people happy to fly the first online leg alongside you.
Do I need payware aircraft or add-ons?
No. Any aircraft of the booked type works — freeware included — as long as it roughly matches the real performance. Payware helps with immersion, but plenty of our pilots fly default and freeware aircraft.
Are you affiliated with Deutsche Lufthansa AG?
No. LH Virtual is an independent, non-commercial flight simulation community and is not affiliated with Deutsche Lufthansa AG in any way.
